It's Snowing!!! (and raining/hailing/frigid...)

If you have transferred from Maine (or maybe you spent a year climbing Mount Everest) you know how to handle the cold and the beautiful white fluff, also known as snow. For those of you hailing from California, Florida, or any place where shorts are the norm all year round, you're in luck!
Here at Transfer Time we have created a list of what you'll need to battle Old Man Winter and his fluffy, captivating, freezing friends. Sadly, the shorts won't cut it when you step outside (leave those for bedtime).
1. A winter coat: This coat should be lined with goose feathers (aka a Down Coat). It will heat you up from the inside out and keep your circulatory system pumping naturally (for the few not in intro biology we are talking about your heart). A beautiful HEATTECH coat from Uniqlo is also another choice. They are light, stylish, and keep you warm (more like toasty, but you'll appreciate the extra warmth when December rolls around).
2. A hat: Many of you currently underestimate the powers of a hat, and no a fedora does not count. We are talking about those hats that cover your ears, some of them come with ridiculously cute pom-poms. Some are known as trapper hats, as in hats that outdoors men with intense beards were in the winter. Yes, they are still stylish and yes, you can probably find one that comes in taupe. Those hats are life savers, or better yet ear savers and your chances are catching the flu drop dramatically, but you've already gone to Health Services and gotten a flu shot, correct? Don't forget about our cute friend, THE BEANIE! Simple, chic (not really), and warm you will love your beanie from now until you pack it away for the next winter.

3. A scarf: We at transfer time are lovers of scarves. Infinity, long, short, striped, plaid, argyle, you name it. If you are looking for warmth and style we think that infinity is the way to go. This weekend one of us found an infinity scarf on sale at JCPenney and it was blue ombre! Wowza! If you are all about making sure that your neck stays warm throughout the day, then a long scarf is good for you. Wrap it 6 times if you need, but looping it once so that it reaches your knees and leaves your neck exposed does not count!
4. Fuzzy Boots: Who doesn't love a good leather boot? We're just saying that this winter a leather boot may not be so loving. Grab yourself a pair of Uggs (or boots that look like them, feel like them, are warm like them, but are not expensive like them). If Uggs break the bank then give the brand EMU a look see, one of us currently owns a tall pair in black and loves them! Just don't forget to waterproof them.
5. Gloves: Your fingers like heat just as much as the rest of your body and sometimes they do most of your academic work, so respect them. Get a pair of gloves that cover your fingers and keeps the beautiful fluff from turning them from rosy and healthy to pale and pruney.

6. Socks: We recommend LONG socks. Shocker! Well, you really shouldn't be trying to pull off shorts and tights anymore (can't you hear the wind howling?). Wear long socks under jeans and sweatpants and you will forever be grateful. Not only will your feet be warm, but your shins will too. Surprisingly, people forget about that section of their bodies and only remember when those leather boots start rubbing against them and cause pain.

Until Next Time,
